Koum Kapi

Koum Kapi or door of sand, is the eastern part of the city of Chania, just outside the walls of the historic center. Koum Kapi is a charming neighborhood full of bars and restaurants, ideal for couples and families. The area of Koum Kapi has the privilege of providing the closest swimmable beach in Chania City. It is at a walking distance from the Chania Center, Chania Old City, the Venetian Port and all the other Chania city sights. Along the beach there are many high quality cafeterias and restaurants with local cuisine that are open every day from early in the morning until late in the night overlooking the endless blue of the Cretan Sea. Its history, promenade along the sea, its bathing beach and the beautiful view that you can admire make this place unique. So, think about Koum Kapi as an additional place for a stroll just outside the old town of Chania, and a couple of hundred meters away of the old harbour of Chania.

Koum Kapi Beach

To the east of Chania’s old town walls, you’ll find Koum Kapi Beach. The sandy beach of the Koum Kapi is one of the most popular beaches for swimming in Chania and one of the two beaches available within walking distance from Chania city center. Koum Kapi Beach was named after the large gate that led you through to the city via the walls. The beach is shaped beneath the pedestrian road and extends to the east for about 1km. Along the beach there are many cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Cretan Sea along with your coffee or meal all day long.

Kouloura Pond, Halepa

Kouloura is a small rocky pond next to the chapel and beach of Agia Kyriaki, at Halepa suburb of Chania. It is a favorite “pool” for the residents of Halepa and every local has a story to tell you about this place.
